Sandbagging in RWBY: Amity Arena is the term given to the act of players intentionally performing poorly. A player who sandbags is referred to as a sandbagger.
Overview[]
Sandbagging refers to players losing matches on purpose in order to get demoted to lower Arenas. Once there, they will use their superior cards to score easy victories against the players in said Arena. This is a tactic done to increase victories during events where victories are needed for a reward, such as Group Leagues or the Cinder's Ball event.
The term "sandbagging" originates from Billiards slang, where it refers to players disguising their ability to play. The idea is that a player is weighing themselves down with sandbags.
Issues[]
Sandbagging is considered by many to be a huge issue with the game. Some take issue with the fact that other games similar to Amity Arena, such as Clash Royale, ban players for sandbagging, and that Amity Arena by comparison seems to reward sandbagging because of the "Sandbagger" title, given to anyone who loses 10 games in a row.
History[]
The Anniversary Update was promised to implement a reward system to combat sandbagging.[1] However, this was not added.[2]
